Apple take notes, your hype is not enough anymore. the number iPhone 5 users wishing they had gone with the Samsung was enough to convert me and I have never looked back. ![]() The ad once again pokes fun at people waiting in line for an un-named phone, standing in front of stores that are intentionally reminiscent of Apple stores. The amount of happy Samsung customers vs. To stoke the flames of anticipation, Samsung released a new teaser video today, reminding us that the next big thing is already hereagain. That being said the commercials got me reading reviews on both phones which, in end what was the final straw. At first watch of the commercials I thought they were just slamming the iPhone with nothing to back it up. I probably ended up watching their “Next big thing” commercials three times a day thanks to Youtube’s clever advertising placement and my interest in the phone market. On the other hand, let’s look at another Samsung advertisement for the same product, The Next Big Thing is Already Here. South Korean electronics giant Samsung originally launched its 'Next Big Thing' campaign at the end of last year. Samsung timed their campaign launch perfectly, and with a Youtube invasion, I did not miss it. From the camera to the apps, youve got to see the next big thing from Samsung. This gave me time to think which turned out to be a negative for Apple. According to the critics, the Samsung Galaxy 5S is a hit on all fronts. Demographics: The intended demographic would not only be a Galaxy smartphone user, but any person is wiling to try the next big thing. If I had been able to snag an iPhone 5 on launch day I probably would have bought one but waiiting in line over night was not an option. I feel like this is what caught my attention and made me want to find out more. Everything Samsung said in their campaign was true, possibly exaggerated, but true and relatable. Although I am more critical and aware of advertising, it almost makes me more susceptible to being swayed by the good commericals. Being a marketing student I like to think I’m above being swayed by advertising but I know that is not true. One of the things that swayed me the most was, though I hate to say, there iPhone mocking commercials. Big things that drew me to Galaxy S3 were the added features, bigger screen, cheaper cost and customizability of the Android operating system. ![]() ![]() This coinciding with a less than stellar iPhone 5 launch created a perfect storm for Samsung to steal iPhone customers, me being one of them. I never considered myself an “Apple fanboy” who would just buy anything they put out but there just didn’t seem to really be any viable alternatives to the iPhone, until the Samsung Galaxy S3. I have been an Iphone user since it first launched in 2008. An ad campaign that definitely captured my attention was Samsung’s “The next big thing is here”.
